“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”
The Mylappanahalli Geriatric Centre located close to Yelahanka serves as a sanctuary and a permanent adobe for elderly canines. The residents here are the elderly and sickly dogs that have suffered grievous injury or disease; these dogs cannot be released back to their neighborhoods as they do not have the means to fend for themselves. Here they enjoy a quiet life isolated from the noise and commotion of the city and spend their days relaxing about the centre.
Sitting on a 1 acre enclosed piece of land, there exists a fenced & roofed area for the dogs to be kept at night and during rainfall. Two pergolas equipped with benches allow for visitors to lounge about with the senior residents. The centre is also equipped with a shallow swimming pool for the dogs to cool off in the summer season and to provide hydrotherapy for the dogs that need it.
You can support us by permanently fostering a dog where you cover the medical and food expenses for one single dog. This will allow us to focus our resources on upgrading infrastructure and providing shelter to even more dogs.
