Ambulance
CUPA operates a regular 16-hour ambulance facility for picking up sick, injured and abandoned stray animals from within and around the city for treatment at the KVAFSU-CUPA Animal Shelter at the Veterinary College Campus at Hebbal. The ambulance is purely a CUPA service initiative and is not funded by the Government or any other agency. It is partly supported by voluntary donors, and though we do not demand, we truly hope that callers will support the service with a small donation to enable us to help the next animal in distress.
The service has one operational ambulance and attendant on two shifts during the day, all days of the week. The 1st shift service is from 7 am to 3 pm and 2nd shift starts from 3 pm to 11pm. On 4 days of the week, CUPA runs a general shift from 9.30am to 5.30 pm. During nights, from 11 pm to 7 am, the ambulance attends to only emergency and critical cases.

When you call the shelter for the ambulance, please remember:

  • It is the only ambulance that caters to the demands of a city spread over 800 sq. kms approximately and a human population of almost 7 million. It is likely that when you call the vehicle could be attending a distress call for another animal in a distant part of the city.
  • While we will make every effort to attend to your call, please note that it may take the ambulance hours before it can reach the site of your call. Animal ambulances do not have the right of passage or cannot sound a siren to get their way through the chaotic traffic.
  • We would request you to bring the animal to the shelter in your vehicle or an auto rickshaw, if possible and if you can handle it. It would save valuable time and make a critical difference to the survival of the animal.
  • When you are calling for the ambulance, please make sure that the animal is secured, if possible, either inside an enclosed space like a compound or is tied so that the trip is not wasted. Remember that a wasted trip could mean a lost life elsewhere.
  • You will be asked to fill in a deposition form by the ambulance crew before we take custody of the animal. Please fill in all details as accurately as possible.
  • We would welcome donations towards the cost of operating the ambulance or towards the cost of treating the animals. Please specify the donations given on the form itself. Receipts for all donations will be posted to your address on the form.
